‘The World is flat’ by Thomas Friedman has been among the most discussed books in the recent times. The book looks at the economic scenario in the world today with an entirely new perspective. It tells about the phenomenon of globalization that has been growing in importance for the past decade or so.

According to the author, globalization has resulted in the ‘flattening’ of the world in the sense that, more individuals and companies are entering the competition in every field of business. Many examples of the same have been provided like the growth of India and China in the global markets.

The book has been published in two editions till now with the second one having a separate expanded edition as well, that has been published in the year 2007.

Even though it has been very popular, the book has received some negative reviews from some experts who claim that, the various phenomena that have been described in the book have been exaggerated to a great extent. On the other hand, many experts also believe that, ‘The World is flat’ sketches out the path that the world economics needs to follow in order to progress to a new level in the future.
