It is sad to note that today’s generation has lost the habit of reading books. Lost would not be the word, never would be the right word to use. The very essence of gathering knowledge from books is gone today. Although there are millions of readers in the world, the number is diminishing every day. People would rather surf the internet than read a good book.
The older generation is completely perplexed with this behavior, as according to them, books are the best source of knowledge. Book fairs and book festivals happen all over the world today, but there are not many youngsters who will think of attending such events. It has become rather a sad state that no one wants to make use of books to gather knowledge today.
In previous days, there used to be specific reading hours every day, so that children were read a few pages from a good book. That practice has stopped to exist, and many elders are left with children turning to the television for entertainment. It is also a fact that intelligence levels will drop if books are not read to a certain extent.
It is entirely up to parents to inculcate the habit in children to read.
